Optomap Eye Scan

An Optomap is a very fast retinal imaging technique that allows us to see much further inside the eye than other methods.

Advanced Retinal Imaging with Optomap

Take a closer look at your eye health with Optomap imaging at Richard Fantom Eyecare. This fast, comfortable scan allows us to see far more than other techniques, helping us to detect and monitor any changes in your eyes.

What Is Optomap?

Optomap is a digital retinal scan that captures an ultra-wide image of your retina in seconds. The Optomap scan can show up to 200 degrees of the back of the eye in one image, often without the need for dilating drops.

This allows our experienced opticians to examine areas that are not always easy to see during a routine eye test.

Why We Use Optomap in Your Eye Test

Adding an Optomap retinal exam to your eye test gives us extra information that can be helpful in spotting and monitoring changes in your eye health.

An Optomap eye scan can help to:

  • Detect early signs of retinal problems
  • Monitor changes related to diabetes and blood pressure
  • Identify signs linked to glaucoma and macular degeneration
  • Keep a detailed image on record for future comparison
  • Give you a clearer picture of your overall eye health

What Happens During an Optomap Scan?

The Optomap scan is simple and comfortable. The scan only takes a few seconds and does not touch your eye. Our friendly optometrists will then show you the image and explain the findings clearly to you.

Book Your Eye Examination

Optomap eye scans are included with every eye test at our Warwickshire practice. Book an appointment with our friendly team for a thorough check of your eye health.

Step One

Make an Appointment

Getting started is simple. Book an appointment with our opticians in Bidford-on-Avon for a full eye examination or any of our other eye care services, at a time that suits you.

Before you visit, you'll know exactly what to expect. We're always upfront about any costs involved before you book, so there are no surprises on the day.

Step Two

Your Eye Examination

Visit our practice in Warwickshire for a thorough, personalised eye examination. Every routine test includes advanced imaging such as OCT and Optomap scans, giving our opticians detailed insight into your eye health, not just a snapshot, so we can offer clear, confident advice tailored specifically to you.

Step Three

Your Personalised Results & Advice

Our opticians take the time to talk you through your results in plain terms, explaining what they mean for your vision and eye health. Whether that's a change to your prescription, guidance on managing a condition, or simple reassurance, the advice is built around you.

Step Four

Collection & Fitting

Once your glasses or contact lenses are ready, we'll get in touch to arrange a collection time that works for you. When you come in, our opticians will make sure everything fits comfortably and correctly, adjusting your frames on the spot if needed.

Why would I have an Optomap scan?

It gives us a much wider view of your retina than traditional methods, helping detect early signs of conditions like retinal detachment, diabetic changes, or glaucoma, often before you'd notice any symptoms yourself.

How does Optomap work?

Optomap uses low-power lasers to scan and digitally map the retina in a single flash, producing a detailed image we can review immediately and compare against future scans to track any changes.

What is Optomap?

Optomap is an advanced retinal imaging technology that captures an ultra-widefield image of your retina in one scan, up to 200 degrees, without needing to dilate your pupils in most cases.
